Sarah James

Sarah James has been the Director of The Contemporary Craft Fair in Bovey Tracey, Devon since its inception in 2003. She has a BA Hons in Ceramics from Glasgow School of Art, graduating in 1993. She was also a full time maker for 6 years.

Having subsequently worked as Crafts Development Officer for Calderdale District Council and for the Crafts Council she then opened in 2002 in Bristol, the critically acclaimed, contemporary craft gallery, Made.

Sarah has written for leading international publications on contemporary craft including Ceramic Review, Ceramic Art & Perception and Selvedge. She has also contributed essays to numerous exhibition catalogues and publications on applied art.

Sarah has sat on the Arts Council, South West grants panel and was a selector for the Chelsea Craft Fair (now Origin) in 2003.

Sarah is Currently curating the Reclaiming Beauty for The Devon Guild of Craftmen’s 2008 exhibition programme where she has recently been made a Co-Director. In adition to this she is developing future plans for The Contemporary Craft Fair. Making Spaces is a new and exciting dimension to her portfolio.
